Pain Free Dentistry at Wayside
Modern dentistry should not be painful. At Wayside we have been investing in our practice for years to ensure our patients remain comfortable when they visit us. We make time to explain everything to our patients- often fear is from the unknown!
The Wand- Single Tooth Anaesthesia
We have been using The Wand for over 25 years. This is because often the most feared part of any dental procedure is the injection. The Wand is very clever- it uses a very fine needle to deliver the anaesthetic at a pressure we cannot feel; a computer continually monitors the pressure levels during delivery. Its delivery is also very precise, so patients aren’t left with the whole side of their face feeling numb and it wears off faster than traditional anaesthesia.

Dental Lasers
We have been using dental lasers for over 20 years.
Our surgical lasers are so precise and minimally invasive, there is often no need for stitches. There is no bleeding so we can better see what we are doing. The area of cell death around a cut made with a Waterlaser is miniscule compared to that from a scalpel- and thus healing is much faster as there is less that needs healing. And inflammation is greatly reduced.
For fillings, there is no noise or vibration and, very importantly, no microfractures which can be caused by a high-speed drill. More enamel is preserved.
The anti-bacterial effect of lasers means surgical, root canal and periodontal treatments are more successful.
A huge benefit to our patients in terms of comfort is something called Photobiomodulation. The world is finally waking up to the power of light therapy. The wavelength used recharges the power packs in damaged cells, allowing them to function again. The light also encourages healing cells to migrate to the area. The difference when using it really is incredible and even after extensive surgery, our patients report very little discomfort.

Intra-Oral Scanners
No more gagging with alginate impressions! Our scanner takes thousands of photos to build up an image of your teeth and take records of your bite too. This also means any restoration will fit better, so much less chance of any discomfort from that too. And we can keep your scan digitally so can often use that in the future rather than having to take more impressions.
EMS Airflow
Visits to the dental hygienists are a lot more comfortable and effective with EMS Airflow and our patients love it. We wouldn’t use anything else; we now have four of these machines so all our hygienists can provide this treatment even when one is away being serviced. This device comfortably cleans the teeth with a fine stream of special powder and room temperature water, disrupting biofilm, removing stains and young calculus. Once you have had this, you won’t want a hygiene treatment any other way!
Same Day Crowns
We can provide crowns in a day so no need for a temporary restoration and a second visit. This makes the whole procedure a lot more comfortable and quicker too. We can either mill a crown using our milling machine which crafts a crown out of a block using tiny drills, or 3D print a crown using SprintRay Midas; the crown is built in layers under pressure from liquid in a capsule.
Navigated Implant Surgery
Navigated Implant surgery allows us to be highly precise, minimally invasive, extremely accurate and it is much faster so less time in the dental chair. Because we know exactly where the implant is going and we can accurately guide it there with real time feedback throughout surgery, we can achieve greater stability. A major cause of peri-implantitis is poorly placed implants, and this risk can be avoided with navigated surgery.
Comfort all the way
We are lucky to occupy an elegant and beautiful Victorian house in which we have a light and airy waiting room which fosters a feeling of calm. Our patients tell us it doesn’t feel at all like a dental waiting room. For children we have books and iPads loaded with Apple Arcade.
All our surgeries are equipped with ceiling mounted TVs to keep you occupied throughout longer procedures.
Our staff are proud of Wayside (and we are enormously proud of them) and strive to make you feel welcome and at ease as soon as you walk through our door.
