That’s why we’re really excited to introduce Lumoral — a light activated antibacterial solution that takes everyday oral hygiene to the next level. While great for everyone, it is particularly recommended for patients who have gum/periodontal disease to improve their gum health and their systemic health by reducing bacterial in the mouth and encouraging healing. Bacteria in the mouth has been linked, among other things, to cardiovascular disease, diabetes management and poor gut health, as well as tooth/gum issues and bad breath.

What Is Lumoral?

Lumoral is a scientifically proven, CE-marked medical device that uses dual-light antibacterial therapy to target and reduce harmful bacteria in the mouth that are responsible for gum disease. It is particularly suitable for patients who are prone to gum issues but can be used by anyone- especially since studies show that regular brushing and flossing alone only removes 65% of harmful bacteria in the mouth.

It is an at home device and is essentially mouth-trays that you wear for 10 minutes after swishing with the photosensitive mouthwash provided. The mouthwash targets residual plaque with microscopic precision, while maintaining a healthy bacterial balance in the mouth.

How Does Lumoral Work?

Lumoral combines two types of light with a special mouth rinse to create an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect:

1. Antibacterial Blue Light (405 nm)
   Activates natural bacterial molecules, disrupting their metabolism and reducing bacterial activity — all without contributing to antibiotic resistance.
2. Near-Infrared Light (810 nm) with Indocyanine Green (ICG)
   The Lumoral mouth rinse binds to bacterial biofilms and is activated by near-infrared light. This process generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mild heat, destroying bacteria and helping loosen plaque from the teeth and gums.
3. Photothermal & Photobiomodulation Effects
   The gentle warmth from the mouthpiece and light energy stimulates healing, enhances blood flow, and supports gum tissue regeneration — ideal for anyone managing gingivitis or periodontitis.
